My Favorite 10 Sites (or is it?)

After reading other posts by other Geneabloggers, has me looking at my favorite sites.

1. FamilySearch, what else?

2. Ancestry, I search for all clues there can be to find right information.
a. Trees for possible correct information and clues
b. General Index for the incredible cross links to other possible sources
c. Passenger lists

3. WorldConnect at Rootsweb. Excellent if you are looking for clues and looking for the research notes left by tree holders.

4. Geneanet. Subscription only. Rich sources of documents for the ones living in France, Germany, Netherlands region. Lots of Trees with sources.

5. Archive.org. Out of print books. Hathi was good until they start requiring college subscriptions.

6. PDFill. Free Software to convert images into PDFs or convert PDFs into images.

7. Irfanview. Free Software for Windows only. Superior to Windows' own Picture software.

8. FamilySearch Indexing and Zoning. You know what Indexing is but could use more arbitrators. Zoning is a new feature, marking births, marriages and deaths in newspapers to be indexed in FamilySearch Indexing. I did Augusta Georgia, Portland Oregon, Rockford Illinois, Springfield Massachusetts and now doing New Orleans Louisiana. I found one distant relative doing this and saved that article using Irfanview.

9. Findmypast. Find those British relatives.

10. SAMPUBCO. What else but creating good indexes for probates? I use it frequently to track down many records to break through. Recently I used it to solve my friend's mystery of multiple wives.

The site is 95 percent revamped to be view-able in smartphones, half tablets and full tablets (Ipad, Android, etc). The only missing item is menu bar, something I have a hard time figuring how to do it to make the site even simpler to use.

These New York wills are not digital available online.

These are out of state, even out of country.

What GPPs?

This is a different photo-sharing site of cemetery grave markers and monuments.

It is done different way from Findagrave.com

The approaches are different and information are done different way. Everybody win, regardless of whether either one is used.

Personally I won't go anywhere near that 3rd site, billiongraves.com

That site now requires you to have an account and sign in then that site let you see the image of that particular grave marker but won't let you see companion one or any other photos and divert you to a new beta site where you can't get out easily and only way to get out is close that browser. There have been steady complaints about how the billiongraves.com site changed from open to closed and photos are opaqued.

Now back to the GPPS and Findagrave.com

Personally I am contributor to BOTH sites because both sites use information different ways. Both are very useful.

I'm not going into details about the Findagrave.com because it is so well known by now.

Let's talk about the GPPs.

GPPs is short for Gravestone Photo Projects.

I administer 4 states quite long time, New York, Massachusetts, Utah and Oregon.

The GPPs were quickly transformed to be mobile ready and quite very friendly now when Google announced the intent last year.

The very first GPP is Iowagravestones.org and it is closely affiliated with The IowaGenWeb Project

Currently there are 40 in USA plus Canada which is modified.
